HTML0 What themes do you see yourself coming back to time and time during your work?
Mayumi Mayumi: The most popular subjects I use in my movies are those that explore identity, oftentimes family drama. I believe that a large portion of my work stems from my personal. This means that there are relationships among families or in among different cultures. the intergenerational or cross-cultural are my main interests.
What are the motives behind this?
Mayumi The most amazing that I like about film is the fact that it is a living thing that will never cease to exist. Film tells stories and now it's like this container but it'll remain in existence for the rest of time. That's exactly what people in the film experience, even if you're not around anymore. It's true that I've seen numerous films that were created before I was born that influence my day-to-day living. If I was the one in charge of telling stories that would last throughout the years, it became sort of my purpose following the creation of my own films which I enjoyed immensely. I was thinking "Ooh I'm sure there's something more. It's not just simply sharing what I'm passionate about."
We'd like to hear your thoughts of the staff Pick experience.
Mayumi HTML0 - Mayumi experience was, in fact, extremely thrilling. It really meant something to everyone, as the film was an important public service announcement, and we truly would like to see it successful not just because all involved worked extremely hard to make it happen however, the message had to be conveyed at the moment and it continues to. We launched the film during Asian Heritage Month, so it's essential to ensure that a lot of people watched it and felt the impact. Our staff was also supportive of this, so I truly loved this.
I became very familiar with Staff Picks which I thought to myself, "Oh, that's the cool group of people." I experienced as "Oh, am I worthy?" Then I realize that I'm just a cool and enjoyable group of people who hang out and I'm truly honored to be in the group.
What's next in your daily life?
Mayumi Mayumi: The next task I have to complete is making my first film, which is based on my first short film, AKASHI. It's been a long journey and I'm incredibly happy we are finally able to create this. I'm very excited to showcase this at these incredibly cool events - and for others to experience it and in the near future.
