My personal background

My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I was born in Russia.

I went to school in Moscow, but I lived outdoors in the countryside.

There was no hot water The house was heated with a heater, and the neighbors raised goats and cows. Wonderful times! Besides nature and bicycles I was a huge fan of animation. All my peers became adults and stopped enjoying cartoons. I was the opposite! I realized that this could be my most-loved activity. It was how I got into film school located in Moscow, Russia.

My style

My drawings should always bring out some deeply emotional emotions. Like coming to warm up by the fireplace after your day or hiking in the mountains.

My method

I am awestruck by the process of drawing. The process has a lot in common with meditation. While I'm at work in the dark, it might get dark outside, I'll get hungry, but it doesn't really matters while I'm in the process.

Today, I am employed in the illustration industry as well as animation... Also, I even design board games. I really love my job.

I've always drawn often. It started looking better when I graduated. Because I began to decide the way and what I would draw.

My suggestion to skeptical visual artists

Think about what you like and love about it. Make an effort to stop listening to the opinions of others if you don't really enjoy what they are doing. It will all work out! And there will be people who are going to love what you do.

My technique

I draw almost everything using my iPad, Procreate. Sometimes I finish some thing in Photoshop.

The iPad really improved my daily life. Now I work in bed, in cafes, libraries. I choose a place to work, I travel, and I do not just sit at my desk. The iPad is an amazing tool that blends traditional drawing and drawing on computers.

The iPad is loaded with great brushes. For example, I bought watercolor brushes through "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". I get excited every time I use them. They're the closest to watercolors as is possible.

A few thoughts on how I do my work

I try to make an approximate outline of objects. Since I find hard lines rough and cold.

Sometimes I make my shadows cold blueish using the multiplier setting. Sometimes I use overlay. But I don't understand that much about it.

Procreate comes with some great blur options, check the settings! There are several kinds of them, and they're excellent. The majority of the time, I do it with classic materials on canvas or paper.

I'm still looking, researching my subject matter as well as trying to come closer to my image that I love by creating personal projects.

The Teriberka series. Teriberka series

I did after traveling there (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. A town where people used to build ships and take a great deal of fish. Now it's kind of abandoned.

Please Google it! It's beautiful.

I always like the North.

I am a fan of the people, the animals and the million of shades of the moss. Tiny berries contain loads of vitamin C, which is more than the tropical fruit. It's quite amazing.

Northern rock formations look similar to the skin of elephants! These are the emotions which I have tried to portray in the pictures.

About the Tiny Things series

The idea came to my head after I had become exhausted of my job, the flu and the urban environment.

Pictures from the woods

I picked up a macro lens and went to the woods. What a stunning beauty was right under my feet! Everything was stunning. It gave me lots of energy to create. That's how this idea came to be.

Whatever happens it is possible to find a miracle that is right there!

How can I plan my work time

The hardest thing is to control your time and relaxation and to refuse requests that aren't suitable. or to do lots of tasks, and to try and not get tired by doing what you enjoy. The whole thing I'm trying to master.

About the creative blocks

The tough element is the actual process and sometimes the process doesn't come out as expected. The result isn't what I want. So you can suffer for 8 hours and then get annoyed. After that, just a few days afterwards, you can redo it in a matter of minutes and everything looks good. What's that? Magic.

This is my little piece of advice for how to conquer creativity blocks

When there is some kind of work to do, you should not take a moment to draw (if you can). Your brain should be able to process the task in the background while you're busy doing other things. This is how I believe you can find the best solution.

My view of my work

If I had to rate my work, I'd never rate myself the grade of "excellent". It's extremely exhausting and makes me torture myself. On the other hand, it drives me forward.

Drawing can be like an adventure!

If you have tickets to another country. You already know something about it on Google, something will surprise your right there. At first, it looks as if it would be a great adventure for me.
