Artistic authenticity: The CreativeMindClass Blog

Connecting to your true self, the essence of what a person is.

Angela Maria Sierra, a Spanish-born artist, portrays true self and emotions she is going through. It is evident in her characters with deep emotional lives, full of sensitivity as well as ease and happiness.

Her name is more well-known in the art world as Riso Chan, who is the portrait artist as well as an artist who is currently a teacher within The Netherlands. The artist is about to begin her artistic journey with videos and her very own YouTube channel! This was something she's always was wishing to do for quite a lengthy period of. Bravely storming through the discomfort of talking to cameras, she made an entertaining video of herself, her work, and her creative surroundings.

Artist Vlog - Riso Chan

Riso Chan on embracing her authentic self in artwork:

My work is very emotional. I create portraits of myself of the feelings I am feeling. My entire life, I have been a sensitive person. Since I was a child, it has been something which always made me feel uneasy and I attempted to ignore it. (...) As you grow, you realise that actually you're not alone and that everyone experiences different. I decided to make use of all of the emotion I bring to my everyday life to paint. It is a way to boost my creative juices and generate the imagination of others. This is astonishing because of the thing I had been trying to push down for all of my life suddenly I put it down on piece of paper and seemed like a great release. There is finally a place where I can use this sensitivity, I can utilize these feelings, pains, and joys and write them down. This was a truly amazing experience and took me to a place that was filled with gratitude. It began to resonate with number of others too. I began to open to putting ideas on paper I'd did not think of before. Instead of trying to be like other artists who were already "made it" I was really listening to what I wanted to say and the person I am as a person. I embraced something that I didn't like about myself and I realised this was my true power. I'm really content being my authentic, sensitive self.
