Digital illustration process The CreativeMindClass Blog

When I'm free I love to complete 30 mins to 1 hour research or other explorations in which I just do whatever I feel like that day. Doing this has helped me grow, but it also made me realize which things I enjoyed.

These days I really like to focus on color, light, as well as how to convey textures in a simple way so that I do not have to be too detailed with everything. I tend to maintain my designs as close as possible to what I see in real life, but going forward I'm hoping to make shapes move further and be more stylized with my artwork.

Before I begin painting, usually I like laying out my main shapes at first, whether in BW or just straight with the color. When I believe it's important, I start with linework initially. When I've got a solid basis, I will map on the light and shadows on layers. Then, I begin to create or render the image, usually going from big to small details.

In the Streets of London painting I used a similar process. To ensure neat edges and keep everything neat, I made use of a number of layers. Additionally, I had the main light on an additional layer.

The layers make me less worried about making mistakes. However, once I feel comfortable with the stage I'm in with the work, I'll begin to merge some things, only keeping the things I consider essential.

For me, colours are much a "feel" factor, so I just go for what feels right. There are a variety of references that I look at for help in choosing the correct colours. Sometimes I blend references but other times I use mainly one.

It's definitely beneficial to study color and light theory so you know what you could do to help make the global color palette and the values stronger.

I think it's difficult for me to define what the secret to creating my work... I simply like exploring various styles, media and subject matters and get inspiration from other artists.

It's still early on my journey as an artist and am very much still trying to figure out my identity as an artist and my personal style. One of the main differences these days is I don't really worry about it as much as I used to , and I think that's making significant changes.

My Personal Background

My name is Bjork and I'm a graphic artist. I'm currently employed in the field of Concept Art on games.

I'm from a small island that is known as"the Faroe Islands and have always been creative in some way whether it was via drawing, storytelling, or whatever. I graduated with a BA in CG arts at The Animation workshop in Viborg, Denmark, in 2019 I started my first full-time job in London in the following year.

Presently, I'm working as a concept artist at Envar Studios but also do occasionally freelance work.

It's true that I'm generally more active with Twitter rather than on Instagram. For those who want to buy prints I sell them on Inprnt.
