Illustrations that incorporate movement and space - The CreativeMindClass Blog

Mar 16, 2022

From the time as a young child I've always loved drawing, paint, and work with my hands. It was and always has been the easiest way for me to express my feelings. However, growing in Taiwan and in Taiwan, having the art of making was often looked down upon, and I was often told by adults to study the more practical aspects of art otherwise I'd end up starving on the streets.

Fortunately, my Mom was always encouraging me to pursue anything that I wanted to do and was willing to do everything in her power to help to achieve my dreams. Following my return to the United States and graduating high school, I realized that I wanted to pursue art as profession.

I was admitted to ArtCenter College of design, studying Illustration with the intention of going to the field of feature animation. However, along the way I came across motion graphics and fell in love with its versatility , as well as it's amazing art work done by those I admire.

What would you say about the style you prefer?

The process is still in the path to finding the fashion that I'm able to claim as my own. I am prone to want to try new things every so often... A month I'll want to do something very vibrant, and then I'll experiment with organic colors. find myself enthralled by a particular shape driving style for a while and then, in the next day, I'll become bored and would like to experiment with something that's more inspired by the lines.

Or sometimes I'll try to blend two different things that are intriguing to me, like I'm on the endless journey of discovery and gain knowledge. However, after experimenting a at times I'm beginning to notice the specific patterns, shapes, and colors I'm attracted to. Maybe that's a start of a design style?

That's a big reason why I love working at Oddfellows, sometimes I still find myself wondering if I'm lucky to be part of an incredible group of people. At work we often have to adjust to various styles from project to project, nearly every task is completed using different methods as well as I'm discovering new information from my coworkers every day.

What is the key to drawing your artwork?

I enjoy drawing illustrations on subjects that I am curious or interested in. I then attempt to give my own spin to the subject.

Most importantly, I love to have fun. I think having fun is essential to creating something, viewers can really tell if a creator had fun doing something... it adds shine.

As I was battling the epidemic, and seeing our studio and my peers trying their best to help the community, I was inspired to start a Patreon called Joy&Frens, where 50% of the earnings go to the charities chosen by my patrons. On it, I share Tips & Tricks, process videos, invite friends for collaborations, and also share my knowledge.

I also show my work on Instagram and on my web site.
