Creating Cozy & Collaborative Virtual Communities

Cicely Blain the Anti-Racism Specialist and Founder of Bakau Consulting. Bakau Consulting

Description of the conference The discussion explains that even though remote working was a reality prior to COVID-19 problem has led businesses in the digital age to shift their operations to a new website. Companies that want to maintain the closeness of clients have created communities online that let people with similar interests to gain knowledge from and assist the other. However, it can be hard to create a community that is as tight-knit as one that is physically.

In this talk, Cicely Blain shares their experiences of the creation of their online community, Living Room. The group discusses their process of creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere in an online area, creating welcoming and safe communities. They also spoke about the ways they utilize the internet to satisfy individuals' needs.

      Principal Takeaways

Learn who your clients are, and what their needs

Before creating Living Room, Cicely had choose who they wanted to dedicate the space around. Since their mission is grounded in fighting discrimination and racism, Cicely realized that this is a major victim of people such as DEI consultants, practitioners and HR professionals that do similar tasks.

Also, Cicely had to figure out the things they truly would like.

HTML1 "I thought about"What are these people looking towards, specifically at these critical moments where so many happenings changing and being described by different terms?

They're seeking community, a sense of belonging, solidarity, and connection in these times of disconnection. They are also looking for ways to learn and connect."

HTML0 Make sure you are relevant to the people who you're trying to reach.

One of the easiest ways to attract new members to your community is to provide members with a thing they will feel a connection to. For Cicely this thing they could relate to was their home. They wanted to replicate the exact comfortable and warm feeling that the actual space they lived in offered them.

"I wondered, "What is it that I'd like people feel in the area? I realized that I'd want them to feel exactly the way they feel if they entered this location. The space should feel comfortable warm and welcoming. I wanted people to be comfortable, relaxed and comfortable. They should feel supported and happy. It is important that they feel at ease and felt appreciated."

Cicely instills the same spirit to us all through:

  • Every virtual conference should give participants a minimum of 10 minutes to reflect. Participants are asked a series of questions that are displayed on the screen in order in order to help people think about themselves.
  • streaming a soothing playlist that is inspired by R&B to help listeners become comfortable calling.
  • Engaging with each conversation as though you're in a casual conversation with your most intimate people. If you're making videos that will be used in their online classes Cicely may be doing their makeup or brewing the tea at the table.

Offer a variety of options for people in the community to get what they require

The members of an online community will likely to have a commonality with one the other but they'll have their own unique needs in addition to strengths and strengths. For your business it is important to find different ways that you can satisfy your members' needs of your group, irrespective of their distinct needs.

With Living Room, Cicely met the needs of their neighbors through:

  • Engaging in different ways (e.g. Live chats, forum discussions to talk about and online courses which provide complete information and other details. );
  • The definition of values for the community and guidelines;
  • We encourage people to show their true self;
  • Elimination of stressors not required, such as schedules, time limits and deadlines for meetings;
  • Be aware of accessibility rules (e.g. disabilities and neurodivergence) as well as other accessibility needs.

Funds in The Funnel Strategies to Increase Revenues by Using an effective funnel which is specifically designed to meet the needs of customers.

Ellie Diop, Content and Finance Coach at Ellievated Academy

The session's description To build your business to be successful, you need customers to buy or use the your products. However, many companies fall into the trap of putting together content that they think the ideal customer is looking for, but not the kind of content that consumers really need. In this presentation, Ellie explains how you increase your revenue and boost sales by establishing the right channel to attract the ideal customer and respond to their preferences and needs.

     HTML1 The main Takeaways

Each and every piece of content has importance.

A funnel that focuses at your client can be described as forging a relationship with your customers. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to create content that is educational, useful relevant and beneficial to your customers. A funnel focusing on the client includes five steps:

  • Awareness
  • Discovery
  • For more information, contact us.
  • Conversion
  • Retention, relationship and Repetition

Concerning the significance in writing material, Ellie says, "Every article you create constitutes a major part of your sales team. What you've written over the past three months is performing the task of getting customers through their sales process... Being consistent and using the same tone makes it familiar to customers to assist them in moving through this sales funnel."

Your brand's definition

If you're not familiar with the people your services or products target, no one's likely to want the products you sell or use the services you offer. Therefore, before you build an online sales funnel you have establish your company's goal and objectives by beginning by talking to your potential customers. You can consider:

  • Who do I serve?
  • What can I do to help my friend deal with his issue?
  • What do I need to do?

They're the underlying principle of any business choice. Ellie provides a simple template in order to aid [YOUR TARGET Audience] in the achievement of [YOUR GOALSby making use of the [YOUR PRODUCT/SERVICE]

Based on her experiences of growing her business Ellie says, "For me, it might be "I assist women in creating profitable businesses by assisting them with strategies and financial plans. '... In one instance I wrote it on a post-it card placed on a table. Later, when I made an online film, I could discern who I was communicating with. "

Create your social media followers

Social media is considered to be one of the best ways to increase brand awareness as well as generate leads for your company. It's so efficient that the majority of users will look your business's Instagram account (or any of the social media platforms) prior to visiting your website.

So, it's important to put your energy (and perhaps even cash) in your posts for social media to increase its visibility. The most effective way to achieve this is to:

  • making engaging, educational videos that can be easily distributed (especially videos)
  • Pai-per-click advertisements are being aired
  • Engaging with influencers who have similar target markets to you.

Lead magnets can be used to increase your number of email subscribers

If you're creating videos or content, you need to add everyone who isn't using social media to your list of subscribers. If they join your mailing list, it gives you a way to directly communicate with them and is much superior to waiting for them to stumble across your videos or articles as they browse Instagram or X (formerly Twitter). Lead magnets can be useful.

If you utilize lead magnets, you're giving out at no cost in exchange for contact information (usually the email address as well as address). It is also possible to request additional items to be added. As an example, when Ellie was first starting her business Ellie offered free 1-on-1 training customers to provide feedback. Ellie utilized the feedback received to get her first group of clients who would pay.

"You've need to ask yourself"What's an element which I can provide great free value to inspire somebody? Consider that as your main draw. In my company, I've recently adopted a brand fresh approach. Instead in directing clients directly to buy an item rather, we encourage the user to take advantage of a complimentary offer like the masterclass free. Then, we sell it at the end. Our experience has been excellent."

A way of keeping in touch with current customers much more quickly than searching for new customers

Every lead you receive you go through the procedure of helping them navigate the funnel of sales. It is a lot harder than influencing an existing client to buy from you again more. So focus on customer retention to the same degree or higher than the acquisition of customers.

For keeping your clients coming back, here are some ideas to keep in mind:

  • Service to customers of the highest quality
  • Survey customers and conduct surveys to gather information and feedback
  • Find testimonials from satisfied customers (offer incentives, should you have the opportunity)
  • Create a product or service that fills in the gaps on the market

In creating the second deal, Ellie shares, "I completed my first credit card transaction for business class for $15. Then I started receiving feedback from my customers about what theywould like to see in when they next need it. Feedback from customers inspired me to create Business Credit, which is Business Credit revamped. After that I designed my Business Credit masterclass, and after that, the whole set of items. The result was that a majority of people who had purchased the first product, later bought the following in order to fill in the gap. After that, they bought the third one because they'd gotten better at their knowledge and wanted more."

The growth of B2C and B2B Businesses with multiple Revenue Sources

Jessica Chen, Global Communication Expert and Chief Executive Officer at Soulcast Media

Description of the session: Businesses, in general, have three main revenue and sales elements that decide their product as well as the content that they create to describe their products and services, offer and also their media, through the dissemination of their content. In this talk, Jessica discusses the power of LinkedIn to assist businesses in communicating with their clients (B2C) and with other business (B2B) How to make relevant content for both groups in addition to ways to enhance the quality of services and products you provide to meet the needs of both groups.

LinkedIn is a powerful platform to distribute content and increase your profile

Although many professional and business users are utilizing profiles on LinkedIn but they're not considering LinkedIn as a tool that allows them to expand your network or distribute information. They view it as a means to improve resumes, locating jobs and connect with people who you already know.

In the real world, LinkedIn is a social media platform. It's the same as Instagram as well as X (formerly Twitter), and is treated as such. Only difference is the type of content that you share.

The appeal of LinkedIn, Jessica says, "The attractiveness of LinkedIn lies in the fact that it has a certain set of users who are engaged through a method that is focused on professional growth and an eagerness to grow. "

Jessica will also share her experience in a talk about her experience as a journalist throughout 2018 and then becoming a accredited Top Voice as well as a LinkedIn instructor within just five years. The way she describes it is she posts regularly on LinkedIn as well as engaging with various groups that could profit from her service of helping others improve their communicating capabilities.

Make your message adaptable to your needs for both B2C and B2B viewers.

Most business owners believe they will only be able to gain attention by ensuring that their material is targeted to people on a particular basis. However, this isn't the case.

The advantage of LinkedIn is the ability of users to modify their messaging in a way that is tailored to B2B and B2C customers. The product you're offering does not require modification, however changing your terminology used when describing the business you run will boost your visibility and help draw in individuals in addition to companies.

"I have realized that when trying to connect with my B2C customers, I'll use terms such as "you," "your" Have you thought about it? ...?'" Jessica asks. Jessica. "My method of communication is very clear. Therefore, anyone who reads my writing feels as though they are receiving an individual message.

"[With an audience of B2B] instead saying 'you", or "your" I'm structuring my talk using terms like "the team" and 'the organization'. This makes it more optimistic [and more personal."

HTML1 Confirm yourself as an authority in the field to draw attention B2B customers.

In contrast to the consumers who are looking for a quality product, B2B customers want to ensure that they are receiving the best quality. To attract the attention of B2B clients, you'll need to establish yourself as a professional or thought-leader within your field, regardless of whether the product you offer is targeted for B2C customers.

If, for example, you're a professional artist, you may develop and launch an online course in photography to your target audience of B2C. But to get B2B clients, you can develop thought-provoking content within the field of art, or establishing a professional business in the field of art. Additionally, if you're giving one-on-one training sessions to show individuals how to become more productive, you can attract B2B customers by posting articles that improve efficiency in the workplace.

You could then change from offering B2C items like e-courses, 1-on-1 classes, and instead organize seminars and talks.

How to build a brand for yourself by using videos

XayLi Barclay Expert and Visual Content Coach using Start Shoot Develop

Session Description: If you're the proprietor of your company, it can appear unimportant, particularly if you're in highly-competitive market or industry that's highly competitive. It is possible to counter this impression by building your personal image through video that are small TikTok videos Instagram Reels or longer-form YouTube videos. In this video, XayLi explains how you can make use of videos to market your online courses in addition to generating sales. Your brand will be more visible to the people who purchase from you.

It's easy to begin

While making your first livestream or creating your livestream for the first time, it doesn't mean that everything needs to be perfect. You can start with what you've got. When you first start out, most people are willing to accept the inadequate video editing abilities because they know that with advancement in time, you'll be more proficient.

XayLi herself got started using her laptop with a basic background of white, and an ordinary ring light.

"This was my first attempt at journalism and even was invited to become one of their experts" she says. "I was not waiting long to I was able to build a newsroom during my very first class, to teach people. I utilized the equipment that I owned because I realized that the information I wanted to present wasn't centered on how stunning your equipment could look.

In the moment I'm using the Studio I have built in my home. this is the place which I started my first attempt at HTML0 in the last few years in the past. "

You will receive more resources in the event that you accumulate more

If you notice an increase in attention for your videos and begin to earn money, it's possible to begin expanding your equipment and upgrading your equipment for video. It is possible to get a more expensive camera, webcam or tripod stand (worth between $500 and $1,000) and a green screen, the eCamm Live and a teleprompter software along with an Adobe Premiere subscription for editing.

Discussing the latest technology and set-up enhancements XayLi says, "[At this stage] there is the possibility of having multiple camera angles and it doesn't stop there. It is possible to start investing in those things because the cash is coming into the market. It is often thought that you must be a good individual before cash arrives. No. It is necessary to be listed on the market then you'll get the cash."

Once you have earned enough money, you may transfer the video recording, editing or distribution work to independent contractors or even an internal team.

Focus on just one thing for a while

The common perception is that you should take each step to grow your enterprise. There's a need to blog across every platform, dive into each trend, and speak about a wide range of subjects. However, this shouldn't be the norm. It is best to focus on one area at a while when creating your brand image. It will keep you from burning out however, but also let the viewers know what to be expecting from you once you publish the video.

In accordance with the XayLi's "Rule of 5 Ones" Here are five things to consider when developing your digital strategy

  • A single item or service
  • One market you can target
  • A tool for conversion of leads
  • The primary traffic source
  • The most important goal of businesses

Memberships -- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Teri Ijeoma the creator of Trade & Travel

Description of the session: If done properly, memberships are great for businesses to build stronger relationships to their clients, in addition to generating additional revenue. Teri Ijeoma was the designer of the membership plan she created that is focused specifically on Trade & Travel and she currently has more than 35,000 students who are enrolled in her courses and over 185,000 members of her email list. In this talk, Teri shares the benefits of a membership program as well as provides step-bystep guidance that will help businesses establish and manage their members effectively.

Find out when it's time to move from a group which is completely free, to a membership model

If you're not a well-known firm, it's likely that you'll be required to create your own membership plan, offering value at free. Teri began her membership program by establishing the group feature on Facebook with no cost. As you create your community, it's crucial to be aware of the moment when you can transition from a free community to a membership program that is cost-based.

There are several signs to be looking at prior to turning an angle

  • The company you work for is growing in size, however the members must pay each year for the services you provide instead of enjoying the benefits your organization provides, e.g. year-long customer support, etc.
  • The members of the group begin with group gatherings or sub-groups. This makes difficult the administration of the group.
  • Group moderators are hired as coaches, who offer coaching for members of the group and are not able to earn extra income from the members of the group.

HTML0 Your member program is a part in its own

Many companies who offer online classes also have membership programs as an addition to the program. The membership plans provide a cost-effective method of making your course more efficient. However, they should be considered as a full product not just an add-on.

In a discussion about the advantages of the benefits of her Trade & Travel membership, Teri admits "In my initial stages I was of the belief that my membership was an extension of my academic experience. However, this is not true.- the membership is an object that operates completely by itself. It has its own marketing staff and an advertising, marketing and sales calendar... It is best to is be thinking of it as a unique product."

Make sure you are clear about your price

If you're moving from an unpaid club to a paid-membership plan, take into consideration your income goals you're looking to achieve and set the cost on top of that. There is a way to make the price more affordable so that you can attract more customers. If you're sure that the group's members are of high quality and you're confident about it, don't hesitate to charge a greater amount for the program.

If, for instance, you're hoping to earn 10,000 dollars every month, you'd rather receive 500 clients paying $200 per month instead of getting 1,000 customers to pay $100/month. The higher your fees are, the lesser your chances of getting clients will be willing to sign up. It also means that you'll achieve your goal to earn more money faster and you'll be able to control your company.

Head of Table Panel Discussion

Diandra Marizet (Host) Co-founder, Executive Director and co-founder of Intersectional Environmentalist

The program of this panel discussion will feature participants Cicely, Ellie, Jessica Cicely Jessica XayLi, and Jessica Cicely sharing their views on the significance of inclusivity and representation in the business world. The panelists will also address issues women as well as BIPOC business owners face when they move into the creative economy and ways to determine the appropriate price to sell their products ethically on the marketplace of capital.

Here are some of the most poignant questions, and their responses from the discussion:

Women of color that run businesses earn income in the very first instance. What challenges and the opportunities and challenges are in store for these women?

Ellie Diop: Just like the pain of being poor is the trauma of wealth, as well. If you're among those in your family to have an e-commerce or an enterprise with a 7-figure profit, there aren't many cases you can be following. It's a myth to keep discussion of money, specifically the ones of ethnicity which is earning more than the average person can imagine in their lifetime.

When I made my million dollars, I felt anxious about moving out of the home of my mother. I was wary of investing money since I was unsure of what would happen if I lost the money. Additionally, I was hesitant to share the news with my relatives because I was afraid they'd be influenced by my character.

What I'd like to see more cooperative spaces that are similar to these, so as to remove the stigma and say "Hey is something going on? If you're anxious about making more money, or what you'll do with it, and the ways you can utilize it, don't feel afraid to speak about it". The stigma perpetuated is a reason why many people earn quite a lot of money but then go back to the place they first started.

In corporate environments, most of the time there is a need to mix, code-switch, or remain silent, or even shut some out. It is not often to be the case that we conform to the professional norms. Did that experience influence how you interact with the community you live in and how can you bring that experience into your job as a DEI professional?

Cicely Blain: In the culture we were raised in, and are currently experiencing a specific sort of person being represented in TV and media as well as through social media. When some creators on the internet get attention, and other creators are ostracized from the spotlight and the common belief is you have to adhere to certain standards of living in addition to the manner in which you conduct yourself.

When you realize in which you're seen as who you really are by those who surround you, and even by the authorities (even even if they don't share the same experience like you) it's an amazing sensation. Although the quantity of people represented is growing and opportunities are more readily accessible, there's an unwritten norm of what everyone should be doing. We tend to internalize the two rules (even even when they may not be accurate) and can put our backs.

To give one example On TikTok there's an abundance of users who aren't well and look neat all the time. While that's fine however, I believe that the possibility of this is restricted to a small number of people. It's also more of a expectation for other people and the way they present themselves.

When do you decide that the direction you're taking doesn't align with the directions you're capable of exploring and the direction your love may take? Then, do you decide to change your path into full-time entrepreneurship?

Jessica Chen: All of people reach a stage where it is clear what we'd hoped to attain is achieved and we're now ready to try an entirely different encounter. My experience was at a job I loved and was enjoyable, however after ten years of working, I was somewhat surprised to learn that there was nothing left. My experience has always been one that creates my personal career path. This is why I began to contemplate ways that I could pass on my experience to others.

I started my professional career in the field of journalism that is the only "proper" career where you can't share opinions. This isn't a voice of your own, and you're just writing about other people's experience. It was a bit of a shock when I first started to make my own voice and show my own style of speech. That was definitely a process of mastering.

What is the best way to promote your services or products so that you can attract customers who are in the same boat, looking to gain knowledge from you and see the value in the product or service you offer?

XayLi Barclay 99% of the times, we keep prices at a low level, yet we end up hurting customers, a huge mistake for investors. It's tempting to believe that there'll be lots of potential buyers if you're selling at a bargain, but the truth is that you're getting lots of buyers who are confused and not prepared to act.

I hired a coach for my firm to calculate the amount I was earning, which was then used to calculate my rate in relation to quantity. There are many creators that start the course at $7, and earn six figures from it however they do not have any quantity. If you're not an experienced creator, you must to be aware of the goals your company has in order to figure out the best pricing.

If I offer 5 online courses for $1,000 each course, I'll earn $55,000 -- as opposed to selling 500 courses for just $10 per class. Consider this in the following how. That's the way I managed to experience.
