Rio Vera-Newton has provided advice on skincare through her writing throughout the several years. "The market for beauty, and specifically, the field of skincare is flooded, and it can be difficult for those who do not have much expertise in this area to sort through," she states. "I am always amazed by how rewarding it was to inform people about the products available and then to help them find those which make sense to them."

In 2017, an event that went viral was a result of that advice being shared to a wider public than ever. The actress shared the details of her daily routine with regards to skincare following an unpleasant flare-up in her acne, which passed between friends and family and finally landed in New York Magazine. Since she was diagnosed, Rio has gone to an esthetician's school, started an enterprise to help with skincare as well as published an article on the topic.

Learn more about the steps she took to begin her business, how helps her keep the business running efficiently and the reasons authenticity is important to how she presents her skincare products.

From viral content to business strategy

Rio's beauty routine that made the rounds was an initial step and a great start, but turning that moment into an occasion was a longer and more anxious journey.

"When I graduated from my esthetician's college, I decided I wanted to start an organization which was more private and personal," Rio says. "I was completely scared like I believe a lot of people feel when starting the new business."

"When I began the way I did, I was keen to make sure that I'd structured my consulting so that it was as useful as possible, so I did about 20 or so free consultations to people in my circle before launching the business and then asked them to give me some suggestions," she adds. "Because that I had this information, I was able to eliminate the issues once I had my first customers that were paying. This was extremely important since it made sure that once I had decided to live with the company I could obtain a good amount of instruction and could launch my venture with lots of confidence."
