When it was time to work on her latest novel, Cult Classic, author Sloane Crosley did not find her an inspiration source in a single place. She knew she would like to create a deep look at love and dating, but parts of her story took inspiration from every source, from personal research to the disused synagogue located in the Manhattan's Lower East Side.

The combination of resourcefulness as well as creative thinking is the reason that can help Sloane cope with the variety of requirements of being a professional writer. Find out the ways that Cult Classic had the benefit of her studying the cult manifestos. Also, learn her method of balancing writing as well as administrative work and how her website helps her maintain her online presence while giving her the ability to add some surprises for readers.

Find inspiration for creativity within the ordinary

Cult Classic tells the tale of Lola, a magazine editor located in New York who, though she's just engaged, is feeling some discontent with her relationship. Then one night, she bumps into an ex-boyfriend--and another, and another. Lola quickly realizes that a cult run by her boss was intentionally putting the exes of these men in her path in order to conduct an experiment. The story that follows is an entertaining and thoughtful narrative about revisiting the past, and perhaps finding peace with the past.

Sloane cannot pinpoint a particular "aha" moment for the idea behind the novel however, her personal experiences with wellness culture as well as modern-day dating informed the manuscript. "I suspect that anyone reading this will be their own wellness and dating specialist in the present," she says. "We're completely absorbed by these subjects, they are satirical within the novels."

Sloane did some specific reading about cults to ensure that the details exactly right. "I required manifestos or guides from inside the cult and could then borrow from the language for comedy purposes," Sloane says.
