In January of 2020, Nia Pettitt opened her Curl Bar that is a place catering to curly hair located in London. The concept behind the salon was not just focused on creating an environment that was beautiful to clients, and also beautiful hair, but also providing a welcoming atmosphere to all clients to be embraced and appreciated.
Take a brick and mortar company to the next stage
The idea of opening a salon specifically for hair with curly locks has been a wish of Nia's. "I frequently traveled across America for my hair to be styled because it was difficult to find salons within London or even within of London or even within the UK," she says. "I was looking to design something that made me feel safe in a calm and relaxed atmosphere and conveyed the visuals of my desires when I was a little girl." A lot of people were attracted to this idea when they opened the doors of The Curl Bar the bar where reservations quickly filled at capacity.
"Your life is changed after you take the plunge to start your own business. Take a look at whether you're prepared to make a change," Nia advises aspiring entrepreneurs. Nobody could have imagined the magnitude of change that would be coming for Nia as well as The Curl Bar. Within a short time after the bar's opening The Curl Bar had to shut down due to closures of COVID-19 within the UK. Even a definite stop in operations didn't slow Nia down.
"I did not have a plan to grow the company, let alone when the crisis hit," she says. "I simply view every moment as an opportunity to learn from. taken away from." While The Curl Bar was closed, Nia shifted her focus on social media, and she began engaging with stylists as well as her clients via email until The Curl Bar could fully reopen.
