It was the beginning of the inaugural Australian Make It Awards to honor the accomplishments of Australian entrepreneurs, creatives, as well as small-scale businesses. Its Make It Awards come from  its beginnings in 2003. the president Anthony Casalena founded the company by obtaining a loan of $30,000 . It was used to purchase  the first server.

Through The Make It Awards, we're giving a present to the Australian business community, by offering three businesses with an award of $30,000 to help further the goals they have set for themselves. Three winners were chosen out of more than 2,500 applicants that were assessed based on the strategies of their businesses along with their innovativeness and contribution for the community as well as their brand and design. Meet Reef Design Lab, Lousy Ink, and The Difference three companies with a the goal of being committed to sustainability and social engagement.

   Reef Design Lab

Reef Design Lab is a multidisciplinary design and development company which creates marine habitats. The structures they create help in the research process on ways to improve and preserve biodiversity in ocean and coastal ecosystems. Reef Design Lab works with the construction industry, architects as well as government and research institutionsas well as marine scientists across a vast range of issues, like ecological engineering, protecting the coast, maritime infrastructure, in addition to coral farm.

Reef Design Lab plans to apply its grant funding to enhance the tech in-house and speed up the development of product processes.

   Lousy Ink

The company was established by two artists. Lousy Ink recycles printer cartridge ink, resulting in various art materials that are sustainable, which includes recycled inks and pens. The company works together with Australian partner companies to gather the materials and recycle the old cartridges and reuse older cartridges to be used in the printing process. Lousy Ink's aim is to turn garbage into an art-related resource and to support both the natural environment and the creative community through encouraging more eco-friendly creative methods.

Lousy Ink plans to use the grant funds to create different shades of colored inks. It includes yellow, magenta and cyan as well as black.

   The difference

The Difference is the initial mobile app that is accessible in Australia that allows users to create virtual money by making transactions, and later give it away to causes they're passionate about. The Different utilizes technology that lets users be a part of sustainable development through their everyday actions as well as micro-donations.

The Difference will use it to broaden the technical services it offers and also to help support The Make Change campaign.
