"Let's begin by defining the adjectives to are most appropriate to describe my art: powerful, expressive and layered."

How did you transition the concept of architecture into mixed-media images?

"When it came time to decide on a career I was told, as numerous others, to not go after a career in art. and I was adamant. After completing a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Architecture. I found myself completely bored with the job in front of the computer. Then , during my gap year at university, I decided creating illustrations, artworks as well as products that had my own designs, which made me feel better!

The whole thing took off before I got a job at an office for architecture that I now juggle with my illustration business and recent studies in art history. I am hoping to get rid of the position of corporate architect quickly enough to focus completely on what I enjoy doing and using mixed-media techniques.

I'm hoping that my experience will help individuals who aren't sure which subject to pursue to understand that the degree in art isn't important. You can be an artist with no background. The best thing is, this will give your work a distinctive look. Naturally, attending an art school will be an amazing learning experience too!"

What is your style of illustration?

"I believe that describing your personal style can be a challenge. I asked my friends about this one, and how they described it could not be more exact. My art appears like my paintings are in movement like the wind is blowing across the painting , and then dropping colors on everything it touches. There is no better way to describe it honestly.

I like layering textures and mixing a wide range of shades, and I'm the ultimateist in this regard. If I am able to restrict a color palette more, the greater the spectrum of color gets.

In a glance at my subjects selections, the things I love to draw are landscapes that feature mountains and the ocean, since it is a reminder of my home town of Tenerife which is a small, charming island that lies in the Atlantic ocean.

However, I also sketch human figures, with exaggerated features and colorful skin. Of course, I always include some architectural element - the six years of studying architecture will be visible in my work."

What's the secret for creating mixed-media artwork?

"I believe that the key for me to create my work is not planning ahead too much. In reality, this approach can be successful but it can also fail, but not worrying excessively about what will happen will allow you to explore your art.

I love watching the process of coloring , making decisions and changing my minds on my final work. It shows my relationship to the paper, to my environment, and also to my paint and you are able to trace my decisions to the end piece.

I enjoy being able play with my hands and mix up my own colors. All you need in order to create my art is a lot of different materials (doesn't need to be anything expensive, but I prefer mixing different mediums), a very loose hand and a willingness to layer paint and start at the beginning."
