What is Course Content Dripping?
Everyone has had those times... in which you've watched an entire television series in the span of a weekend, spending the whole night flipping through page after page of a brand new novel and then realizing you've eaten a whole bag of biscuits... entirely on your own ().
While indulging in something enjoyable can be satisfying initially however, we often end up feeling unfulfilled afterward.
Learning can be the same in this way. When students take in too much information too quickly this can result in:
- Anxiety: Worrying they missed something important or made mistakes.
- Regret: Wishing they had been patient enough to comprehend the content.
- Doubt: Questioning if they truly grasped the content.
- The Overwhelm You feel overwhelmed by many things to consider at the same time.
This isn't the type of feeling you would like your students to experience after completing your course.
That's where course content dripping comes in!
Instead of distributing all the information to students all at once, content drips allow you to release material in well-timed intervals. This approach helps them be patient with every lesson, stay engaged, and learn more efficiently.
What Differences Will Content Dripping Create for Your Course?
1. Create Knowledge one step at a time
Instead of providing students with access to the entire material at once, Dripping releases each lesson or module according to a set arrangement, helping them learn more slowly.
This step-by-step method helps students to feel a sense the progress they have made and their accomplishments when they progress through the program.
Think of your class as a literal staircase where each step represents an entirely new concept. It is essential that students be able to master the first stage before they move on to the next. It is important to are able to grasp the basics before tackling higher level concepts.
2. Engage students and keep them Engaged
When students know that new content is coming regularly, it builds enthusiasm and curiosity. The anticipation helps keep them interested because they're constantly eagerly anticipating the next lesson or module.
They get used to putting aside time each lesson. This will increase the chance of them staying engaged and focused on the course from start until the end.
3. Create Content Just at the Right Time
Dripping of course content gives the full freedom to choose when and how you release your lesson plans to ensure they are in perfect alignment with your course schedule.
It doesn't matter if you're explaining a complex concept that requires more attention, or preparing for an assignment that requires more time, using content drips allows you to adjust the delivery of your material to meet the needs of both your students as well as your course objectives.
4. Help Everyone learn at the same pace
Course content dripping is an effective method of keeping all your students moving forward in a consistent manner making sure that nobody is advancing too fast or lags behind.
In releasing information at set intervals, you build a cohesive learning environment that allows everyone to progress with each other.
Furthermore, since everyone is studying together, you are able to easily identify and address those areas where students could need extra support, ensuring that no student gets left behind.
5. Let Learning be Relevant and Managable
The learning process should be one that students are able to enjoy and not an overwhelming process. When all course material is presented in one go the students can experience unnecessary stress and anxiety.
Dripping of course content provides a more student-friendly approach with lessons delivered in smaller, manageable portions.
Instead of having to learn everything all at once, students can take in information at a comfortable pace, making the learning process feel more individual and attainable.
By spacing out the content it also provides occasions of pride for your students when they master each step. It helps to maintain the students' enthusiasm, and keep their interest in studying.
