about opportunities that could alter your career path

Prior to moving to London in 2017 I had lived in a small town in Germany and worked for only a few months in the role of an After Effects animator. There weren't many creative opportunities and my abilities decreased rapidly and I began to get very angry.

Moving to London and meeting the incredible animation people in the city gave me an enormous lift. It felt like "Damn I'm being in the company of some cool children . I've better start putting on my best."

In the wake of my experience at this year's Pictoplasma Conference, I came to the conclusion that I should join the ranks of designers who are innovative. I realized quickly that my characters are most effective when rendered in 3D and I'm still learning which is challenging, yet very rewarding!

My work has been noticed by the people at Greenhouse Animation, that is now my director for them.

The X-Files project and the secrets of socks that disappear

One of the first things I did in my newly-discovered style was my Covered by Lemonade clip.

Lemonade Insurance approached me to design a project for their constant Instagram artist collaboration. Since the company is an insurance firm that deals in content, the concept of cute objects from the home in danger immediately occurred to me. It's why the X-Files concept came to life.

Last winter, during the coldest months of the year, I was secluded and replaying the entire"X-files. Therefore, the idea of an alien abduction of the classic kind was plausible. It was a problem that all characters had to be at the same location in the same spot in order for the motion to cease before being taken away. This is the time I came up with an idea of opening the washing machine running and one pink socks flew toward the UFO.

As I worked on creating an UFO as well as providing it with a few legs, I noticed the ways in which everything could be put together. The UFO has fallen off its feet , and it is looking for it!

I believe that creating a good story can be done best by mixing different elements that are not connected initially. Making things happen in ways that are unexpected, and also to give inanimate objects an identity by making silly faces of their face is enjoyable for me!

Details regarding the process of animation

The process starts with drawing the characters , followed by developing an outline. It was transformed into an animation for Lemonade in order to present the idea and timing. After that, I jump to Cinema 4D and model all my characters. This is also the time I experiment with different strategies as well as design frames.

Once the animation using Cinema 4D is done, I transfer it onto After Effects for compositing and final details. For the light beam that is pink, like the one above it is done using After Effects.

The audio effects , as also the collaboration with Phill Brookes

This was the first time I worked with sound engineer Philip Brookes who really rocked it! His work lifts the entire footage up to an entirely new level, and connects everything perfect! This was a remarkable project that was successfully completed. I'm looking forward to creating another one like this!

We've talked to Phil about his process of creating sound effects to use in The X-Files project. Take a listen to the conversation of Philip Brookes.

Presently, I'm learning the art of making characters rigged, and creating stunning textures using Cinema 4D and Redshift. I'm experimenting with the combination of 2D animation and 3D and am excited to discover where my design journey for characters will take in to me in the coming years!
