Welcome to our conversation with the illustrator from Canada, designer, and creative teacher Maia Faddoul. Maia is an early-generation Canadian artist who is based out of her Montreal studio. She creates bright and colorful illustrations for packaging, editorials publication, and much more. Her style is high-contrast, colorful, and bold and often has a subdued message of social justice hidden in.

Maia is a total color-lover as well as a bit of a neo-maximalist in her artistic style. Maia utilizes her work as a means to communicate her opinions, voice out on injustices, and bring awareness to causes that mean a lot to her.  I think of my drawing style as 'High Contrast'.

My aesthetic is vivid, high-contrast and colorful usually with a subtle social justice message hidden somewhere. I'm an absolute color lover and also a bit of a minimalist with regards to my artistic style.

 What is the key in creating your illustration?

One of the most important aspects of my practice is making artwork that is reflective of my values and values. My personality isn't the most outgoing or outgoing person, and so I often use my art as a vehicle to communicate my views, express my opinion, talk about injustices and spread awareness to causes that mean a much to me.

Digital drawing classes

Maia utilizes the drawing tablet as well as Procreate to make digital portraits. In her Drawing Expressive Portraits with Procreate class she explains the process of creating colorful, vibrant and striking portraits.

I'm a first-generation Canadian artist who works as an illustrator as well as a designer in my Montreal Studio. After pursuing both illustration and design at university and in college as well, I am now employed in a variety of fields employing both streams of expertise to create vibrant and vivid images for editorials, packaging and publication, among others.
