Ten Ways Jo Kelly Coaches People To be Great Actors

May 6, 2024

Jo Kelly isn't your average acting teacher.

In reality, she doesn't use the word "teacher" in any way "I have nothing to do with the way of teaching people to behave" she states. "I assist people in not acting."

Through classes that emulate reality, Jo coaches mainly actors and artists of all kinds along with non-artist "seekers" on how to achieve inner freedom and become their best authentic selves. This way, actors are able to stop performing and begin being. "I like to call myself an acupuncturist more than a coach because I assist people in returning to their true self and be rejuvenated," she explains.

She believes that the key to success for an actor is their fulfillment and capability to commit themselves fully to their character. "When your persona is fully protected your story, then you're able to tell it and the public is affected," she says.

Her unique method of coaching actors, she helps them to get into their child's fascination, imagination and play. What does this mean? They provide authentic, live, and raw performance.

In the year 2016, Jo changed from coaching in person to start an online company via . Since the time, she's led three consecutive learning journeys and has been able to assist more than 8,000 people. The group has had amazing results since joining Jo as well as securing roles in some of the most prestigious studios including Netflix, HBO, Disney, Showtime, ABC Studios among others.

Here's how she built an online company that is doing the things she's passionate about:

She conducted her own research

Jo was a unique way to get into acting.

Birthplace: Belgium Her home was Belgium. She graduated with an MBA after which she specialized in the field of management of human resources and the system psychology. In the following years she worked in corporate coaching. "The corporate environment never felt as if it was my style," she shares. "I made the choice to quit everything and move to Paris to start afresh. ."

One of the main reasons she took the decision to begin over was trying her hand at acting, which she fell in the love of. She was an extremely hardworking and passionate person, and put all of her energy and resources in acquiring abilities to become the most efficient actor she could be.

Despite her dedication to her art she claims that she was a decent actor but wasn't a star. Like the vast majority of actors suffered from stage fright. "Most of my actors had this same problem," she says. "We were all so intense, but when it was time to get on stage the role, we were scared ."

The actress wanted to find out what factors prevented herself and others from becoming the top actors. "My curiosity became obsessional," She says. "I would like to understand the reasons actors become dedicated and passionate, but then decrease when the time comes for them to do their job. ."

In the following years In the following years, she studied ways that actors might feel in a sense of being trapped. The research she conducted led her to the conclusion that when kids are playing, they're in control. However, when adults play the same way and aren't, they've lost their autonomy due to society conditioning. "When I realized this I took the remainder of my day to help actors to overcome stereotypes and allow them to perform and show their true selves and feel the same youthful enthusiasm they used to have," explains Jo.

Her coaching began in the year 2000.

Jo's experiential research led her to study different somatic tools and practices, which she then tried alongside other clients via both group and private coaching in the beginning of 2000. In the following years Jo called her business To be Or Not To Act.

She soon realized her students were lacked accountability. "No regardless of how committed my colleagues were, they shouldn't expect to be present every day. Even if we met every week, we would only meet three times. There was no obligation between sessions. The ball would be dropped without a problem if they weren't with me." Jo explains. Jo.

She decided that online courses could help students stay consistent with the way they work. She calls her online classes to be "journeys," and the one she first guides students in is The Reset: From Resistance to Freedom, which she created in the year 2014. "I began to design The Reset so that I could help people through all of the 33 days that it takes," she explains.
"Since the site is online, users are able to make this happen on their own time and create their own schedules."

It's Jo's belief that we are born with a true essence. However, our social conditioning teaches us to behave as we perceive, feel and do the things we do. According to Jo The main goal of the Reset is to help people take part in daily exercise to help them get rid of their conditioning and revert back to their natural nature. Every day, in The Reset, Jo offers the exercises recorded. In addition, she provides two Q&A sessions and two pods for group work as well as a third semi-Q&A where she provides answers to the questions frequently asked in the group on Facebook that is private.

Being able to adjust the timing of the online learning experience enables members of Jo's to take part in lessons whenever they want whenever they awake, before they go to bed or whenever they have free moments during the time of the day. "The best part is they are able to integrate them into their daily routines," she explains.

Her online business was founded which gave her the flexibility to live a life she wanted

When Jo first started her site Reset journey it was running every single event that was held through her website. A couple of years later, she switched to after being encouraged to join Reset by her coach. "You guys know exactly what you're doing, but I'm not" she chuckles.

After stepping into the online coaching space Jo's lifestyle has transformed. When she was doing her interview with us she phoned from the hospital where she was accompanied by her daughter. "Eight years ago, my daughter was born with a genetic condition and is dependent on hospital visits every month" she says.

" lets me be a mother and manage my other family members as well as keep my business going, even when I'm in hospital as my daughter is receiving her regular transfusions," she continues. "Working online lets me take care for my child in the way that I would like to, and remain at home all the time for take care of her. I am able to go to the hospitals for medical issues, while being able to take on a career I'm passionate about, and not be stressed about it ."

Her subsequent travels were hers to design.

After completing The Reset, they have an option to join the course for three months called The Purposeful Actor. The course is a 3-hour class over 12 weeks. "The participants of this course are a little more self-sufficient when it comes to responsibility and proving their worth. There are certain routines that they must follow every day, but they can't rely on me to do it and they must think up their own objectives which is the purpose." Jo says.

Jo also offers Q&A sessions during the Purposeful Actor Journey as well as every week for three weeks. After having finished the journey for their Purpose, they have the opportunity to sign up for a year-long membership named BAMF Actors In Action, that stands for Bad-Ass Mother Of F***king Actors In Action. "I created the membership so that I could aid those who had completed these two walks who wanted to further the training they received on this path," she says.

The membership program has been operating for four years. The membership includes a one-hour monthly content session and group events with weekly pods, a each month a Q&A with Jo, and a six-hour summit that occurs every three months. "The membership lets members decide how they'll leave the confines of their home to do what they're suppose to do, network with experts in their field and write their own material, and improve their game," she explains.

She worked with performers of all types

As per Jo she believes that the majority of the clients she works with who she works with are actors. But there are different kinds of artists like writers, storytellers, dancers, and musicians, as well as regular individuals who "want to overcome physical limitations" for example, mothers and professionals like professional athletes, TV hosts, and therapy professionals. "Freedom is an issue for everyone who wishes to be fully expressed," she says.

Because the travels are conducted in English these trips attract tourists from around the world. "We get travelers from every continent However, the majority originate originated from America, Europe, and Australia," she shares.

The majority of her listeners are between the ages of 20-50. Some are even at the third decade of their lives, and it's not unusual for her to welcome those aged 70 or 80s into her journeys.

Her clients did the talking

In terms of marketing her adventures, Jo says the word was spread mainly through the power of word of.

Her homepage has an embedded testimonial reel. This provides social proof and boosts the credibility of her work. On her website, visitors are able to sign-up for the newsletter she sends out via her website. To gather emails, she gives two free workshops as lead-inducers like Stop Trying To be a good Actor To Give You The Chance To Be Great and"The Instinctive Actor. In addition to helping assist her with capturing her audience's information, but they offer a preview of what she does as a coach.

Additionally, she is a part of an Instagram page that has more than 10,000 followers. It also is also featured in interviews for different podcasts, blogs and publications.

She chose a price that is value for money.

Jo tries to make her journeys affordable for people, especially as actors often are constantly changing in their earnings. "If you were to attend one acting class per week, you'd pay around $300-$400. The majority of the time, you're seated to observe other actors doing scenes or play, and you'll occasionally get the opportunity to take a turn" she says.

"These online trips are much less expensive," continues Jo. "The worth of our trips is 10 times what we offer them at ."

The Reset costs less than $1,000 USD. The Purposeful Actor cost $1250 USD, and the membership cost $270 USD per month.

She never left the area of talent

Even though she's the director for To Be Or Not To Act, Jo is firm in her desire to devote more time to her inner creativity, which is in coaching and writing content. Jo isn't tech-savvy preferring to be "in the flow" doing her best work. "The different aspects of running a company isn't something I'm particularly interested in because it's not in my field of expertise," Jo explains.

Jo believes that her accomplishments are the result of hiring a coach from early on. In her quest to create evergreen journeys and take a chance, she and signed up for a course with a cost of $20,000 to find out how to create it. "It was an enormous amount that required me to take on an amount that was half of the cost. It was good that I was able to make it," she shares.

She believes that everyone can create an online business that's profitable. But, she cautions that it's not a simple task.

"It requires commitment and determination. It's important to feel passionate about your work. As for me, this is all I've accomplished since I quit my job during my 20s and that's the path I'll continue to undertake. This is because I am passionate about it. that when times get difficult, I stay with it ."

Her creation was born from her heart.

She suggests online creators remain realistic about the hard efforts they'll need to put into creating an online business that is successful. She also suggests you only accept the responsibility in the event that the subject you're presenting is one that's close to their hearts.

"The danger now is that the moment you sign up to social media and you'll discover that everyone is coaching and telling you that to make millions of dollars in two minutes, and that's just not true," says Jo. "It is the case that you've got something dear to you and you want to give it away to people that are more important than people in your local area. It's not easy, however. which includes falling down and getting back up. It is important to receive coaching, and investing your time and cash until the structure is built ."

Just like Jo said, if you begin to build your business from the heart, it will give you the determination to endure the difficult times.

"An online enterprise isn't simply an opportunity to earn some cash. It has to be created with your gut, and built upon the job that you're required to perform. If you don't, you'll drop the ball because it will be too difficult to manage." She explains.

"If you're trying to do it with purpose, you'll be able to take on the challenge. If you're trying to earn a quick buck, you won't be able to accept these challenges. My best suggestion I could provide is to remain with what is very dear to your heart. It is essential to perform at the highest level at work because there is a lot of competitors. It is essential to be confident in the work that you're performing. ."

Her integrity was protected with her craft

If asked about the online course trends we may observe in 2024, Jo believes that there will an abundance of online courses. She says that the main differentiator between "McDonald's" courses as well as "gourmet" classes will be courses that have been designed in a way that is honest.

"When there's an overabundance of stuff, there'll be two kinds of work online. There will be McDonald's kinds of courses. There will also be reliable and gourmet classes. There will be plans to achieve this or that with your life. However, it won't be from a place of integrity And then there are people who have been doing this for a long time," she says.

To create the perfect gourmet look, obviously, her advice is to return to the core.

"There is a huge potential to those who live in their soul and aspires to serve other people," she continues. "The people that will require your services will see that they can count on you ."

"I'm thankful for this ability that allows humans to be human beings to what's essential for us. It's incredible."
